The best subscription tracker apps, compared

Last checked

Quick answer

Start with how an app finds your subscriptions. Rocket Money, Monarch and Simplifi link your bank, and work only in the US (Monarch and Simplifi also in Canada). Rasid and ReSubs read your billing email, with no bank login. Bobby, Orbit, Subby, SubTracker and TrackMySubs keep a list you fill in yourself.

Three ways an app finds your subscriptions

The app reads your card and bank transactions and spots the charges that repeat. It finds subscriptions you forgot, and usually adds budgets and net worth. It needs your bank login through a data provider, and it works only where that provider covers your bank: for Rocket Money the US, for Monarch and Simplifi the US and Canada.

It reads your billing email

The app searches your inbox for receipts, invoices and renewal notices. It finds forgotten subscriptions too, sees the renewal date in the email and notices a price rise in the provider's email, and it works in any country with any bank. It cannot see a charge that never sent an email.

You add them yourself

You type each subscription in, often from a list of services. Nothing is connected, so it is the most private, and it works anywhere. It only knows what you remember to add.

The apps one by one

Rasid

Finds subscriptions and bills in Gmail, with read-only access and no bank login. It searches only for billing mail, and you confirm each one before it is tracked. It reminds you 3 days before a renewal and shows a price rise when the provider, Apple or Google Play emails it. In the UAE it also reads DEWA, SEWA, du and Etisalat (e&) bills and compares UAE prices.

  • Good for: subscriptions found for you, without a bank login, in any currency.
  • Less good for: Android, budgeting, or cancelling for you. Rasid is our app, in early access on iPhone.

ReSubs

Finds receipts and renewals in Gmail, and reads screenshots and PDFs. Its App Store listing says "no bank linking required".

  • Good for: email import on iPhone and Android.
  • Less good for: more than 5 subscriptions on the free plan.

Rocket Money

Links your US bank accounts, finds recurring charges, and with Premium can cancel some subscriptions and negotiate bills for you.

  • Good for: people in the US who want budgeting and cancelling in one app.
  • Less good for: anyone outside the US: its help centre says it is "only available to users located within the United States and with U.S. based banks". See Rocket Money alternatives outside the US.

Monarch

A budgeting app that links your accounts and shows your recurring payments.

  • Good for: budgeting in the US and Canada, with subscriptions as one part of it.
  • Less good for: subscriptions alone: it is a full budgeting app, paid after a 7-day trial.

Simplifi

Quicken's spending app. It links accounts at "over 14k financial institutions".

  • Good for: spending plans in the US and Canada.
  • Less good for: anywhere else: its help centre says it is "not designed to function outside the U.S. and Canada".

Bobby

A simple iPhone list: pick a service, set the price and the date.

  • Good for: a clean list you keep yourself.
  • Less good for: finding subscriptions you forgot.

Orbit

An iPhone tracker that adds subscriptions from screenshots, CSV and bank statement files, with no bank login.

  • Good for: importing a statement file without connecting your bank.
  • Less good for: Android or the web.

Subby

A tracker for iPhone and Android with 600+ brands and 46 currencies. PRO reads a screenshot you choose.

  • Good for: a free list on both phones.
  • Less good for: automatic discovery: you add each one.

SubTracker

A web app that installs on a phone, with 180+ services and calendar sync. Its site says it "never links to your bank".

  • Good for: any device and many currencies.
  • Less good for: reminders and price-hike alerts, which are on Plus.

TrackMySubs

A web tracker with CSV import, free for up to 10 subscriptions.

  • Good for: keeping a list on a computer.
  • Less good for: a phone app.

FAQ

What is the best subscription tracker app?

It depends on how you want subscriptions found. To have them found without a bank login, Rasid and ReSubs read your billing email. In the US, Rocket Money links your bank and can cancel some subscriptions for you. For a list you keep yourself, Bobby, Subby and SubTracker are free.

Is there a free subscription tracker app?

Yes. Bobby, Subby, SubTracker and ReSubs have free plans, TrackMySubs is free for up to 10 subscriptions, and Rasid is free during early access. Rocket Money has a free version with paid Premium.

Which subscription tracker doesn't need a bank login?

Rasid, ReSubs, Bobby, Orbit, Subby, SubTracker and TrackMySubs work without a bank login. Rasid and ReSubs read billing email; the rest work from what you add.

Can an app find subscriptions I forgot about?

Yes, if it reads your bank transactions or your email. Rocket Money, Monarch and Simplifi spot repeating card charges; Rasid and ReSubs find receipts and renewal notices in Gmail. A tracker you fill in yourself only knows what you add.

Which subscription trackers work outside the US?

Apps that read email, or that you fill in yourself, never connect to a bank, so where you bank doesn't matter. Bank-linking apps work only where their data provider covers your bank: Rocket Money in the US, Monarch and Simplifi in the US and Canada.
