Apps that cancel subscriptions, and apps that help you cancel

Last checked

Quick answer

Few apps cancel a subscription for you, and one says plainly how: Rocket Money, on Premium, for US users with US banks, and only for subscriptions it lists with a Cancel option. Subscription Stopper and Subpilot list a paid cancelling service in their App Store listings without saying how it works. Most other cancel subscriptions apps find your subscriptions and show you how to cancel, and you finish it yourself. No app can cancel a subscription billed by Apple or Google Play: you cancel those on your phone, in under a minute.

Cancels for you, or helps you cancel

An app that cancels for you

You ask the app to cancel, and its team contacts the company for you. Rocket Money calls this the Subscription Cancellation Assistant: in the app, open the subscription, choose Cancel, then Cancel This For Me, and fill in a short form. Its help centre says most cancellations finish within a few business days, and that a charge may still go through before the cancellation is confirmed.

An app that helps you cancel

The app finds or lists your subscriptions and gives you the steps or the link, and you cancel with the company yourself. This is what most cancel subscriptions apps do, and it is usually faster: most cancellations take a few taps once you are in the right place.

What no app can cancel for you

Rocket Money's help centre says subscriptions billed through Apple, Google Play, Amazon, Roku or PayPal have to be cancelled through that platform. These are often the ones people forget, because they renew inside an app.

  • Apple: Settings, your name, Subscriptions, the subscription, Cancel Subscription.
  • Google Play: your subscriptions in Google Play, the subscription, Cancel subscription.

Full steps for every way you pay: how to cancel subscriptions.

Before you let an app cancel for you

  • It needs your bank. Rocket Money finds subscriptions by linking your bank accounts, and works only in the US with US banks.
  • It costs money. Cancelling for you is a Premium feature; free Rocket Money users "must cancel them on their own".
  • It takes days, not minutes. Rocket Money says most cancellations finish within a few business days, some take longer, and a charge can go through before it's confirmed.
  • Check your next statement either way. If a charge continues, dispute it with your bank, as Rocket Money's own help centre suggests.

The apps one by one

Rocket Money

Links your US bank accounts, finds recurring charges, and on Premium cancels subscriptions that show a Cancel option.

  • Good for: people in the US who want cancelling done for them, and budgeting.
  • Less good for: anyone outside the US, and subscriptions billed by Apple or Google Play. See Rocket Money alternatives outside the US.

Subscription Stopper

An iPhone app by inMarket Media whose listing promises a "Subscription Finder" and help "canceling subscriptions". Update notes on its listing describe a Premium "Cancel for Me" service; neither says how cancelling works.

  • Good for: a free list on iPhone.
  • Less good for: knowing in advance how cancelling works.

Feenko

Connects your bank to find recurring payments, then shows cancel instructions for each service, or you ask its team for help.

  • Good for: finding charges from your bank, with help on hand.
  • Less good for: price: its App Store listing shows Premium Weekly at USD 9.99.

Subee

An iPhone tracker you fill in yourself, with renewal reminders and step-by-step guidance on refunds and chargebacks. It says plainly that it can't cancel on your behalf.

  • Good for: reminders and refund steps.
  • Less good for: finding subscriptions you forgot.

Subpilot

An iPhone tracker with cancel guides for 500+ services. Its in-app purchases include "Auto Cancellation", which the listing doesn't explain, and it says access requires a subscription.

  • Good for: a large library of cancel steps.
  • Less good for: a free option.

Bobby

A simple iPhone list: pick a service, set the price and the date, and Bobby reminds you when a payment is due.

  • Good for: a clean list you keep yourself.
  • Less good for: finding or cancelling subscriptions.

Rasid

Rasid does not cancel for you. It finds your subscriptions in Gmail with read-only access, without a bank login, reminds you three days before each renewal or trial end, and its Cancel subscription button opens the provider's own cancel page for the services it knows. You cancel in a minute, at the right time.

  • Good for: cancelling in time, anywhere, without linking a bank.
  • Less good for: having someone else cancel for you, or Android. Rasid is our app. See Rasid subscription tracker.

How to choose

  • You live in the US and want someone to cancel for you: Rocket Money Premium.
  • You don't want to link a bank: Rasid finds subscriptions in Gmail; Subee, Subpilot and Bobby work from what you add.
  • You only need the steps: how to cancel subscriptions, free, for every way you pay.
  • You live in the UAE: Rasid also reads DEWA, SEWA, du and e& bills; see how to cancel subscriptions in the UAE.
