What a UAE price rise costs over a year

A Rasid notification, Spotify's price changed: now AED 23.99 a month, was AED 21.99, above the subscription list showing Netflix AED 71.00 and Spotify AED 23.99

Quick answer

A price rise is quoted per month, and you pay it twelve times. Spotify's 2025 rise on Premium Individual was AED 2 a month, which is AED 24 more a year. A reported AED 3 rise on YouTube Premium Individual is AED 36 a year. Together that is AED 60 a year for two rises that each looked small. The rise usually reaches you at your next billing date after the provider's notice, so the time to decide is before it.

Why the monthly figure hides the cost

A provider announces the monthly difference because it is the smaller number. A subscription you keep for a year pays the rise twelve times, and one you forget for three years pays it thirty-six times. The arithmetic is simple, which is the point: multiply the monthly rise by twelve before you decide whether to keep a plan.

Spotify in the UAE, plan by plan

Khaleej Times reported on 17 August 2025 that Spotify raised its UAE Premium prices, and that existing subscribers had a one-month grace period before the higher rate applied. Its figures, with the yearly difference worked out by us:

Spotify in the UAE, plan by plan
PlanOld priceNew priceRise a monthRise over 12 months
Premium IndividualAED 21.99AED 23.99AED 2.00AED 24.00
Premium StudentAED 11.99AED 12.99AED 1.00AED 12.00
Premium DuoAED 27.99AED 32.99AED 5.00AED 60.00
Premium FamilyAED 33.99AED 39.99AED 6.00AED 72.00

The yearly cost of Individual went from AED 263.88 to AED 287.88. Spotify's UAE page today lists Premium Standard at AED 23.99 a month, Platinum at AED 59.99 and Student at AED 12.99, so the Individual and Student figures match the page. Duo and Family are no longer listed there.

YouTube Premium: a reported rise, with one caution

Absolute Geeks reported on 21 August 2026 that YouTube Premium Individual in the UAE would go from AED 26.99 to AED 29.99 a month, which is AED 36 more over twelve months (AED 323.88 to AED 359.88). The new price, AED 29.99, matches the price in Rasid's catalogue, read from YouTube's UAE page and last checked on 23 October 2026. We could not find the old price on a page from YouTube itself, so treat AED 26.99 as reported, not confirmed.

The same report gave a Family price of AED 49.99 rising to AED 57.99. Our catalogue shows Family at AED 48.99, so the two disagree and we leave Family out rather than guess.

Where the same service offers a cheaper way to pay

A rise is also a reason to look at how you pay, not only whether to keep the plan. Two examples from Rasid's catalogue, last checked 23 October 2026, with the arithmetic ours:

  • Disney+ lists AED 49.99 a month or AED 449.90 a year. Twelve months at the monthly price is AED 599.88, so the yearly plan is AED 149.98 less.
  • Spotify sells a one-year Standard pass for AED 239, which Spotify's page works out at AED 19.92 a month. Twelve months of Premium Standard at AED 23.99 is AED 287.88. The pass does not auto-renew, so it ends when the year does.

A yearly plan also means the next rise reaches you only at your next renewal. The trade is that you pay more at once, and a forgotten yearly renewal is a larger charge. Neither choice is right for everyone; the point is to choose.

Add it up across services

Take a household that pays Spotify Individual and YouTube Premium Individual. The two rises above total AED 5 a month, or AED 60 a year. Add a streaming service and a delivery plan and the yearly effect of small rises is a real line in a budget, but only if you can see it. This is the same reason the YouGov survey found UAE consumers topped 17 markets for leaving three subscriptions unused for six months (18%, February 2024): small recurring charges are easy to stop looking at.

What to do when a notice arrives

  1. Find the new price and the date. The notice gives both. Write the date down.
  2. Multiply by twelve. If the rise is AED 3, that is AED 36.
  3. Decide before the date. Keep, move to a smaller or yearly plan, or cancel. Our cancellation guide has the steps.
  4. If Apple or Google Play bills you, the notice comes from them, and the price can differ from the provider's own site.

For the full dated list of UAE changes, see UAE subscription price increases. For how a notice reaches you, see how to know about a price rise before you pay. Current prices are on UAE subscription prices, including Spotify and YouTube Premium.

How Rasid fits

When a provider, Apple or Google Play emails a new price with the start date and the old price, Rasid shows the card as, for example, "Goes up to AED 31.99 on 10 Nov", before it applies. It does this only when all three are printed in the email, and an offer is never treated as a rise. Rasid does not cancel or change a plan for you.
