Description: Apple Music, YouTube Premium and Spotify family plans compared with single plans in dirhams: the number of people at which sharing costs less.

# Family plan or single plans? The UAE break-even

By Taimoor Nasir. Published 10 Nov 2026, updated 10 Nov 2026. 3 min read.

## Quick answer

On the prices these three providers list for the UAE, a family plan costs less than separate plans once two people share it for Apple Music and YouTube Premium, and once three share it for Spotify's Platinum plan. Apple Music Family is AED 39.99 against AED 23.99 for Individual, so two Individual plans (AED 47.98) already cost more. The catch is the rules: members must live at the same address, and a plan only saves money for people who would otherwise each pay.

## The prices

| Service | Single plan | Shared plan | Who it covers (the provider's words) |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Apple Music | Individual AED 23.99 | Family AED 39.99 | "Up to 5 people" in the plan section; the page's FAQ says up to six |
| YouTube Premium | Individual AED 29.99 | Family AED 48.99 | The manager plus up to 5 other members of the household |
| Spotify | Premium Standard AED 23.99 | Premium Platinum AED 59.99 | Up to 3 accounts, "for up to 3 individuals residing at the same address" |

Apple Music and Spotify are from the providers' UAE pages, read on 27 October 2026. YouTube's prices are from Rasid's catalogue, read from YouTube's UAE page and last checked on 23 October 2026, because YouTube's page could not be fetched today. The member rule for YouTube is from its help page, read today. Prices are monthly in dirhams.

## The break-even, worked out

The arithmetic below is ours. It compares the shared plan with the same number of single plans.

**Apple Music.** Two Individual plans cost AED 47.98 a month; Family is AED 39.99, so sharing saves AED 7.99 a month, or AED 95.88 over twelve months. Per person, Family costs AED 20.00 for two, AED 13.33 for three and AED 8.00 for five.

**YouTube Premium.** Two Individual plans cost AED 59.98; Family is AED 48.99, a saving of AED 10.99 a month or AED 131.88 a year. With the manager and five members, the share is about AED 8.17 each.

**Spotify.** Platinum at AED 59.99 costs more than two Standard plans (AED 47.98) by AED 12.01, so two people should not use it for the price alone. At three people, three Standard plans cost AED 71.97, so Platinum saves AED 11.98 a month, or AED 143.76 a year, about AED 20.00 each. Platinum is a different plan from Standard, and we have not compared what each includes, so check the page before you switch.

| People sharing | Apple Music Family, each | YouTube Premium Family, each | Spotify Platinum, each |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| 1 | AED 39.99 | AED 48.99 | AED 59.99 |
| 2 | AED 20.00 | AED 24.50 | AED 30.00 |
| 3 | AED 13.33 | AED 16.33 | AED 20.00 |

Against the single plan at AED 23.99, AED 29.99 and AED 23.99 respectively, each family plan is cheaper per person from the second person for Apple Music and YouTube, and from the third for Spotify.

## The rules that decide it

- **Same address.** YouTube's help page says each member must live at the same residential address as the manager. Spotify's page says its Platinum accounts are for individuals residing at the same address. Sharing across homes is not what these plans describe.
- **One person manages the plan.** YouTube's help page names a family manager. Agree who that is, and who pays, before you share.
- **The number is a maximum.** A plan with two real users is cheaper than two singles for Apple Music and YouTube, but a plan with five slots and one user is the most expensive way to listen.
- **Student plans can be cheaper still,** but only for verified students: Apple Music Student is AED 12.99, YouTube's catalogue entry is AED 18.99 and Spotify's Student is AED 12.99.

## Where the money really goes

The saving per plan is real but modest: AED 96 to AED 144 a year on these examples. The larger waste is the plan nobody uses. Before you move to a family plan, check that each person would actually keep paying for a single one. If not, the right answer might be fewer subscriptions, not a shared one. See [forgotten and duplicate subscriptions](https://rasid.app/guides/forgotten-subscriptions) for how to find the ones you could drop.

## How to check your own household

1. List what each person pays for the service and on which route (Apple, Google Play or the provider).
2. Compare with the shared plan on the tables above.
3. Confirm everyone lives at the same address and who will be the manager.
4. Switch at a renewal, not mid-month, and cancel the old plans yourself.

## How Rasid helps

Rasid's Discover tab compares what you pay with the same service's yearly plan, a bundle or a same-job rival, from providers' own UAE prices. It only compares like with like, and it does not cancel or change a plan for you. Current prices for each service are on [UAE subscription prices](https://rasid.app/prices), including [YouTube Premium](https://rasid.app/services/youtube-premium), [Apple Music](https://rasid.app/services/apple-music) and [Spotify](https://rasid.app/services/spotify).
